Of course, everybody knows that you should always leverage other people's work. The correct answers are, of course, 1(a) 2(b) 3(b).

Right?

Not so fast, there!

The Not-Invented-Here Syndrome is considered a classic management pathology, in which a team refuses to use a technology that they didn't create themselves. People with NIH syndrome are obviously just being petty, refusing to do what's in the best interest of the overall organization because they can't find a way to take credit. (Right?) The Boring Business History Section at your local megabookstore is rife with stories about stupid teams that spend millions of dollars and twelve years building something they could have bought at Egghead for $9. 99. And everybody who has paid any attention whatsoever to three decades of progress in computer programming knows that Reuse is the Holy Grail of all modern programming systems.

Right. Well, that's what I thought, too. So when I was the program manager in charge of the first implementation of Visual Basic for Applications, I put together a careful coalition of four, count them, four different teams at Microsoft to get custom dialog boxes in Excel VBA. The idea was complicated and fraught with interdependencies. There was a team called AFX that was working on some kind of dialog editor. Then we would use this brand new code from the OLE group which let you embed one app inside another. And the Visual Basic team would provide the programming language behind it. After a week of negotiation I got the AFX, OLE, and VB teams to agree to this in principle.

I stopped by Andrew Kwatinetz's office. He was my manager at the time and taught me everything I know. "The Excel development team will never accept it," he said. "You know their motto? 'Find the dependencies -- and eliminate them.' They'll never go for something with so many dependencies."

In-ter-est-ing. I hadn't known that. I guess that explained why Excel had its own C compiler.

By now I'm sure many of my readers are rolling on the floor laughing. "Isn't Microsoft stupid," you're thinking, "they refused to use other people's code and they even had their own compiler just for one product."

Not so fast, big boy! The Excel team's ruggedly independent mentality also meant that they always shipped on time, their code was of uniformly high quality, and they had a compiler which, back in the 1980s, generated pcode and could therefore run unmodified on Macintosh's 68000 chip as well as Intel PCs. The pcode also made the executable file about half the size that Intel binaries would have been, which loaded faster from floppy disks and required less RAM.

"Find the dependencies -- and eliminate them." When you're working on a really, really good team with great programmers, everybody else's code, frankly, is bug-infested garbage, and nobody else knows how to ship on time. When you're a cordon bleu chef and you need fresh lavender, you grow it yourself instead of buying it in the farmers' market, because sometimes they don't have fresh lavender or they have old lavender which they pass off as fresh.

Indeed during the recent dotcom mania a bunch of quack business writers suggested that the company of the future would be totally virtual -- just a trendy couple sipping Chardonnay in their living room outsourcing everything. What these hyperventilating "visionaries" overlooked is that the market pays for value added. Two yuppies in a living room buying an e-commerce engine from company A and selling merchandise made by company B and warehoused and shipped by company C, with customer service from company D, isn't honestly adding much value. In fact, if you've ever had to outsource a critical business function, you realize that outsourcing is hell. Without direct control over customer service, you're going to get nightmarishly bad customer service -- the kind people write about in their weblogs when they tried to get someone, anyone, from some phone company to do even the most basic thing. If you outsource fulfillment, and your fulfillment partner has a different idea about what constitutes prompt delivery, your customers are not going to be happy, and there's nothing you can do about it, because it took 3 months to find a fulfillment partner in the first place, and in fact, you won't even know that your customers are unhappy, because they can't talk to you, because you've set up an outsourced customer service center with the explicit aim of not listening to your own customers. That e-commerce engine you bought? There's no way it's going to be as flexible as what Amazon does with obidos, which they wrote themselves. (And if it is, then Amazon has no advantage over their competitors who bought the same thing). And no off-the-shelf web server is going to be as blazingly fast as what Google does with their hand-coded, hand-optimized server.

This principle, unfortunately, seems to be directly in conflict with the ideal of "code reuse good -- reinventing wheel bad."

The best advice I can offer:

If it's a core business function -- do it yourself, no matter what.

Pick your core business competencies and goals, and do those in house. If you're a software company, writing excellent code is how you're going to succeed. Go ahead and outsource the company cafeteria and the CD-ROM duplication. If you're a pharmaceutical company, write software for drug research, but don't write your own accounting package. If you're a web accounting service, write your own accounting package, but don't try to create your own magazine ads. If you have customers, never outsource customer service.

If you're developing a computer game where the plot is your competitive advantage, it's OK to use a third party 3D library. But if cool 3D effects are going to be your distinguishing feature, you had better roll your own.

The only exception to this rule, I suspect, is if your own people are more incompetent than everyone else, so whenever you try to do anything in house, it's botched up. Yes, there are plenty of places like this. If you're in one of them, I can't help you.

Шесть сигм (six sigma) в корпоративном управлении - высокотехнологичная методика точной настройки процессов, применяемая с целью минимизировать вероятность возникновения дефектов в операционной деятельности. Название происходит от статистической категории "среднеквадратичное отклонение", обозначаемой греческой буквой #963;. Методика "шести сигм" разработана в корпорации Motorola. Плановый показатель качества при использовании этой методики - не более 3, 4 отклонения (дефекта) на миллион операций.

Метод основывается на шести базовых принципах:

1. Искренний интерес к клиенту
2. Управление на основе данных и фактов
3. Ориентированность на процесс, управление процессом и совершенствование процесса
4. Проактивное (упреждающее) управление
5. Сотрудничество без границ (прозрачность внутрикорпоративных барьеров)
6. Стремление к совершенству плюс снисходительность к неудачам

При реализации проектов по методике используется последовательность этапов DMAIC (define, measure, analyze, improve, control - выявить, измерить, проанализировать, усовершенствовать, проконтролировать):

1. Определение целей проекта и запросов потребителей (внутренних и внешних)
2. Измерение процесса, чтобы определить текущее выполнение
3. Анализ и определение коренных причин дефектов
4. Улучшение процесса, сокращая дефекты
5. Контроль дальнейшего протекания процесса.

По аналогии с восточными единоборствами в сообществе, использующем методику "шесть сигм", принято присваивать специалистам "пояса" - черный, зеленый, желтый и т. п.

P. S. I Love You is a movie based on the novel of the same name by Cecelia Ahern. Directed by Richard LaGravenese.
The film deals with Holly and Gerry Kennedy, a happily married couple living in Manhattan. It starts with a fight, but you can see that these two are clearly in love and think the world of each other. That makes it all the more tragic when Gerry dies of a brain tumor and Holly must continue on without him. Holly, played by Hilary Swank, then receives a letter from Gerry saying that he has a plan that will help her not only cope with his death, but move on with her life.
There will be nine more letters to come. This launches Holly on an adventure of celebration and growth with Gerry, her friends, and family via his letters. What I really liked is that after we are set to wondering how Holly can be getting letters from her dead husband, the explanation, when revealed, isn't at all what I was expecting, and is all the more touching.

This movie has a lot of heart, and successfully combines romance, comedy, grief, and sadness with a talented cast. The supporting cast doesnt get enough screen time. It includes Lisa Kudrow and Gina Gershon as Hollys best friends Denise and Sharon, who provide most of the comedy. Kathy Bates plays Hollys mother Patricia, Gerry is portrayed by Gerard Butler, who doesnt have much screen time since he dies very early in the film, but he narrates it, so his presence is felt, and he does a great job doing so.

it would be good for my career in Russia when I am back

I tried to speak english to my daughter since her childhood but she didnt like it - just started crying when she heard this foreign speech, so I gave it up... and started when she was 6 - same age that I started teaching other kids (my pupils) - I think its the best age to start unless you REALLY speak english at home ALL the time

cartoons in english is the best variant for chilrdren at the age of 8, for example I remember the time mhen at my english lesson we watched cartoon about Muzee, may be smb remember those brilliant time. At the age of 4-5 as I remeber I song "Head and shoulders, knees and toes". It was so funny. )))

I also watched cartoons.... but I doubt they can really help.. except of 4-5 words in the vocabulary.... no?

I think you wouldn`t make children of 4-5 years old to watch film like "Gone with the Wind". It`s only a game for them.

в качестве развлечения - в 4-5 лет, и то - очень аккуратно, не зацикливаяся на произношении, например. Изучать серьезно - только после того, как встанут на место все звуки в родном языке (эта проблема иногда еще в школе не решена) и ребенок освоит родную грамматику. Иначе ненужной языковой интерференции не избежать - фанатизм некоторых родителей нередко приводит именно к этому...
Все сказанное выше не касается двуязычных семей (один из родителей - носитель). Там вообще другая история: при разумном и отвественном подходе дети растут билингвами. (Но и они в определенном возрасте старший дошкольный не в состоянии "развести" 2 языка, отсюда - проблемы с обучением вообще).

... Но искусственно имитировать двуязычную среду, разговаривая с ним, например, по утрам, на ломаном английском, на мой взляд, извните, глупо (таких родителей тоже видела)...

Извните сумбур, но, думаю, что мысль донесла... Если есть вопросы, каксющиеся особенностей раннего обучения, пишите - отвечу...

ну а польза есть от этих игр в 4-5 лет? просто я иной раз думаю.. может и не мучить детишек дополнительной нагрузкой - все равно толк небольшой...

Разумеется, без д\з. Занятия с мелкими скорее напоминают интерактивный театр... Дети обычно легко включаются в такие игрища. Если без фанатизма со стороны родителей и преподавателей - почему бы нет?!

да нормально! я вот помню, у меня в дестве был пазли с картинками и отдельно названиями предметов на инглише-) пришла в школу и уже знала названия основных предметов - было легче))))

I'll tell you an example of my adventures in America -))

the 1st one happened right after we landed and passed the passport control in the US. While mum was waiting for our luggage i decided to go to the restrooms (as they call them in America) and crossed the border where i was not allowed to do so. So when an officer asked me to be registered again i tried to explain that "I've already PASSED it" - of course i said it with the British pronunciation (remember Am. and Br. variant of dAnce;-) so the officer thought i was saying PASSPORT -))) and only when he said PASS in an American way i reralised that British rules no longer work -)))) and btw all the documents were in mum's bag so i was on the edge of being an illegal russian girl there-)))

... did you get it or should i act it out at our next meeting? ;-D

I remeber one situation clearly)) with an American girl.... She was wondering where she can find a bin(мусорное ведро)

but I heard "a pin" and asked all my colleages to help me to find a pin(булавка) for her, she was waiting patiently and when she saw it... burst out laughing then explained in other words and I burst out laughing too

If you waked up and found that there are no woman and food in your house, but you want to have a breakfast you may do following action:
- discover your refregerator and kitchen cupboards
- take old dry cottage-cheese, one egg, sugar, the rest of milk and flour and one apple
- mix all this products and put it to microwave
- wait some time and taste it.
Maybe you will have some look like the breakfast

But I remember that the taste of mother's baked pudding was much better ))

Still I wrote the essay in pen. And the topic was one of the listed in brochures. I had preplanned most of them, so 30 min was just enough for the task.
The most challenging part for me at that time was listening, as I hadn't had much speaking practice, hadn't had access to cable TV, Internet or whatever which are in abundance these days.
By the way, there wasn't any speaking part. Yet they say it's easy as long as you have a try while preparing.

Are you going to entertain yourself this way or to leave us for the American dream?))

Сегодня вечером небольшая компания домика "неанонимных алкоголиков" (10-12 человек) идёт в сауну. Сауна на Авиамоторной, очень чистая и уютная, мы там бывали много раз. Для того, чтобы не переплачивать, нам не хватает 2-3 человенка. Приглашаю всех желающих.

Немного о сауне: она называется "Деревенская" и выдержана в фольклорном стиле. Например, над бассейном (с водопадом и донным гейзером) - бревенчатый мостик, оформление зала наверху соответствующее. Сама парилка очень чистая, современная. Джакузи с гидромассажем.

But it's a difference: he works not in sauna with its dry atmosphere but in Russian kind of bath with lower temperature and a lot of steam.
I prefer the dry sauna so I don't need such service. :)

Hi! Actually, Obama is a good public speaker but not a great one. He is very good in delivering stump speeches with a teleprompter. The credit for all these catchy phrases should really go to his handlers and speechwriters. As for Obama, he is no Reagan, he doesn't have a sense of humor - a must in America! Also, IMHO, Obama's narcissism is a bit over the top, even for a professional politician.
Of course, what really matters is not Obama's speaking skills but his judgment, and the guy is obviously smart (unlike, for example, Joe Biden). Let's hope that America got a good President this time around.

Разумеется, Obama doesn't need to read every single word, this is one of the reasons for his delivery being so effective. Many even find his speeches inspiring. During the last few months it was hard to turn on a TV in this country without hearing "Yes we can" cry all over again, and switching the channels didn't help much. I got a bit fed up with all this.
But please understand, I am not trying to diminish Obama's success in any way, it is indeed remarkable, and he was clearly the best available candidate for the job.
I do think however that expectations are overblown and that many people will be disappointed as a result.
It will be nice if Obama will manage the economic crisis without causing much damage along the way, but even this might be too much to expect. Короче говоря, по-моему в эйфорию впадать пока еще рановато. Впрочем, поживем - увидим...

4 vitamins to make the immune system stronger
5 yoga

that's an example of a very russian question! once i was trying to explain to my american friend why russians drink - as their soul hurts =))) i am afraid he didn't get me...

for me the answer is - come up to your close person, hug him\her and tell him\her about your feelings
you'll be understood, and that's what we all need after all;-)

Я только помогаю организатору этого тренинга. Сама к этому отношения никакого не имею. Но там буду. Обязательно! Знаю, что будет не хуже чем в "свободе слова". Хотя там я была 2 раза и мне тот тренинг очень очень понравился. За неделю мы прошли то, что люди за год проходят. При том, что было реально весело и прикольно. С 8 до 23 часов каждый день, и мы не уставали. Чередовались игры, грамматика, комп. класс, снова игры, разговоры по темам и т. д. Здесь не будет компьютерного класса, в остальном будет прикольно. Чем больше народу - тем интереснее!

Последний, самостоятельно организованный участниками в 2-4 ноября 2008 года, обошелся в 2500 с учетом шашлыков и легкой выпивки)), но без тичера.

И, безусловно, хороший тичер привнес бы в это дело много полезного.

Однако за участие тичера в тренинге продвигаемом Анонимкой приходится платить примерно 70 тыс с группы за два дня.

В нашем домике, я так думаю, есть народ способный провести нечто подобное.

редко в вузах и еще реже пишут в словарях и учебниках. Даже в самых продвинутых.

Я впервые услышала внятное разъяснение от одного из преподавателей в Школе переводчиков (по-моему, это был Чужакин). А до этого расставляла запятые и проч. чисто конкретно интуитивно.

То, что английская пунктуация отличается от русской, думаю, никто оспаривать не будет. Но как? Спешу порадовать тех, у кого с русской пунктуацией проблемы: в английской уживаются две тенденции - understop (знаков препинания минимум, только самые необходимые) и overstop (вариант для эстетов и эпилептоидов, по сложности и логике - а иногда ее отсутствию - не уступает русской). Возможность выбора - по-моему, неплохо?

Сначала я хотела писать оригинальный текст, причем на русском, поскльку (а) тема сложная, затрагивающая различные аспекты грамматики, много теории, которую при разъяснении на английском, поймут лишь студенты старших курсов филфака да преподаватели того самого филфака. А в чем другие провинились? Те, что просто хотят общаться на языке (устном и письменном). (б) Уровень подготовки жителей домика различен, а хочется, чтобы читать форум было интересно всем.

Но: в процессе прояснения для себя некоторых моментов я обнаружила весьма недурной ресурс, где на английском же языке излагались внятно и поэтапно правила англ. пунктуации. Копипейстить буду оттуда, с сокращениями, пояснениями и собственными наблюдениями. Готова работать вашим словарем и справочником. Не стесняйтесь задавать вопросы. Буду отвечать - либо здесь, либо по ссс.

Итак. Введение...
HOW TO USE PUNCTUATION ON THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Lindley Murray and Goold Brown laid down cast-iron rules for punctuation, but most of them have been broken long since and thrown into the junk-heap of disuse... Punctuation has been greatly simplified, to such an extent indeed, that it is now as much a matter of good taste and judgment as adherence to any fixed set of rules. Nevertheless there are laws governing it which cannot be abrogated, their principles must be rigidly and inviolably observed.

The chief end of punctuation is to mark the grammatical connection and the dependence of the parts of a composition, but not the actual pauses made in speaking. Very often the points used to denote the delivery of a passage differ from those used when the passage is written. Nevertheless, several of the punctuation marks serve to bring out the rhetorical force of expression.

The principal marks of punctuation are:

There are several other points or marks to indicate various relations, but properly speaking such come under the heading of Printer's Marks, some of which are treated elsewhere.

Of the above, the first four may be styled the grammatical points, and the remaining five, the rhetorical points.

* Точку еще называют point (при написании чисел) и full stop. Full stop еще употребляется таким образом: "I will do it. Full stop!" - " Я это сделаю. Я сказал!\ И точка!"
** Есть еще и такие кавычки [' ']. называют inverted commas. Правда, я слышала, как кавычки из текста тоже называли inverted commas.

я единственный раз прочитала в фразеологичесом словаре о пунктуации статейку на пару страниц. где было все хорошо изложено. это было пару лет назад.
А до этого использовала пунктуацию наобум.

Ну меня такое впечатление, что система образования так была построена, чтобы никто ничего не дай бог не выучил.

Кк со словами... Вначале детям железно вбивают одно из значений слова. а через несколько лет оказывается, что у слова есть несколько абсолютно других знаений и других исползований.

Когда стала сама стала читать книжки по грамматике и фразеологии advances level, стало понятно, что на предудущих уровнях только путали, в крайнем случае, недоговаривали.

Наверное, это шло со времен СССр, где специально следили, чтобы языков не знали.
Сейчас наверное, не так учат...

РS. За ошибки, в том числе пунктуационые, не серчайте. У ноутбука клавиатура безумная. )

... думаю, рановато. Да и материала, на котором можно было бы обучать пунктуации, к 6 классу дети еще не набирают. Обучать аспектам иностранной речи (именно иностранной (!), а не в условиях двуязычия), на мой взгляд, да и не только на мой, возможно лишь тогда, когда в полной мере усвоены законы родного языка. Иначе возникает такая не слишком приятная штука, как языковая интерференция.

Про обучение в советской школе: Да, слышала я такую байку: якобы вся программа обучения иностранным языкам строилась у нас так, чтобы ни один, даже самый способный ученик, изучая иностранный язык в течение 7 лет в среднем 3 ак. часа в неделю, "на выходе" знал десяток совершенно недееспособных в нормальном общении фраз, типа "Комрад Петров из э фэктори воке". Очень полезно, особенно при поиске нужного адреса или туалета! Видимо, из соображений государственной безопасности.

Я сама работала по Старкову (кто не знает, это автор учебника для средней школы) "Как безнадежно устарел ваш хэви-метал! " (С) И реалии, и методология. Единственное незыблемое и довольно хорошо и кратко изложенное - это тексты по страноведению. Остальное нужно дополнять и перерабатывать... При чем новое издание вызывает еще большую грусть, потому как уже (!) переработано авторами...

в принципе, не стоит... :))) Заморачиваться вообще не стоит. Для вас есть understop. Из знаков препинания используются запятые и точки. Где - расскажу, когда придумаю как...

я вот иняз закончила - и нас пунктуации тоже не учили! Так по ходу объясняли, что придаточные не отделяются, только условные и только если начинается с IF... Обращения отделяютя запятыми кроме деловых писем... Найти в инете можно. Вопрос - нужно ли населению продираться через филологическую заумнятину? К тому же, про overstop и understop написано крайне мало и путано... А потом, как выяснилось, кому-то это все же интересно...

1) Что делать со сложно-подчиненными предложениями, главным образом, с придаточными условия? Если предложение начинается с главного, запятая не ставится (в русском перед союзом необходима запятая): I'll buy a helicopter if I have enough money. Ecли предлложение начинается с ПРИДАТОЧНОГО, запятая, как и в русском, нужна: If I have enough money, I will buy a helicopter.
еще пример: I was watching Tv while she was washing my car. = While she was washing my car, I was watching Tv.

2) Про другие придаточные:
Та же самая история: очень хочется влепить запятую а приедложениях типа She says that he is clever (Она думает, что...), а нельзя. Не лепите.

3) Думаю, все слышали про строгий порядок слов в англ. предложении - подлежащее, сказуемое, все остальное? Так вот: строгая пунктуация тоже внесла в реализацию этого принципа свои 5 коп. Иными словами, если предложение начинается не с подлежащего, а, например, с обстоятельства времени или места, после него ( получается, перед подлежащим) нужна запятая. Исключения составляют простые наречия типа yesterday, tomorrow, there etc.
PS. В инете попалось еще более простой комментарий к правилу:
Use a comma after phrases of more than three words that begin a sentence. If the phrase has fewer than three words, the comma is optional.
Examples:
On February 14 many couples give each other
candy or flowers. OR On February 14, many couples give each other candy or flowers.

Однако, если вы придерживаетесь тенденции understop, запятая здесь не нужна.

4) И еще: начиная предложение с инфинитива цели (зачем? для чего?) вне зависимости от его длины, лучше все-таки отделить его от главного запятой. e. g. To apply for this job, you must have previous experience. To check it, refer to the dictionary.


5) А вот вводные слова типа вводные слова (наречия и наречные словосочетания) типа however, therefore, или at the same time, чаще обосабливаются как в начале, так и в середине предложения.
Для тех, кто заморачиваться не собирается, это правило можно опустить.

6) В сложно-сочиненных предложениях с союзами and, but, for, or, nor, so, yet запятая все же ставится, . е. g. He got lost, but nobody could show him the way. Так предписывают правила. Правда, честно сказать, в текстах запятая перед and и but встречается крайне редко.

7) Люди, и умоляю: обращение в письмах заканчивается в РУССКОМ восклицательным занком (а не запятой), а АНГЛИЙСКОМ - запятой (а не восклицательным занком)

Все! Побежала работать.... Потом еще про цитаты и тире напишу...

Я думаю, что герундий здесь потому, что to take to doing smth. приравнивается to get used to doing smth.

Я полагал, что betray имеет смысл предавать = обманывать. Но в этом контексте получается, что имеется аналогичный русскому смысл: предавать смерти, хотя в русском это идет от смыслового значения отдавать (передавать). А в английском непонятно от чего.

Некоторым из нас (в основном, тем кому за 30) по разным причинам не подходит формат студенческой вечеринки, но, поверьте, нам тоже "есть, что сказать миру". Все люди разные, и не надо нас разными ярлыками награждать... Чмок!

'Pants' evoked certain memories together with an American idiom "to have ants in pants" (ants следует читать как 'энтс'). It means "to be very nervous, scared, anticipating smth unpleasant, unable to sit quetly etc.", e. g. before the exam...

Начало в 18 часов, но можно опаздывать и основная масса народу приходит к 19 часам и позже. Обычно окончание в 21-30, но по случаю праздника - на час позже.

Обычное посещение 100 руб. По случаю праздника 150 руб.
Обычные мероприятия посещают от 100 до 200 человек. По случаю спец. мероприятия народу будет больше.

ИМХО, место на любителя. Шумно, душно, бестолково, многолюдно, бюджетно, даже слишком (про пустой бар). Выпить (без закуски, насколько я поняла), если повезет, отхватить экспата и попробовать поговорить. Но "принцев мало, и на всех их не хватает" (с). Оч. смешные сцены наблюдала... А потом - танцуют все, всё в том же маленьком и душном помещении, половина которого занимает самообслуживающийся гардероб... Не знаю, будь мне 20, возможно, мне бы понравилось...

"патамушта скоро наступит время..."

в иных случаях когда for присоединяется к глаголу образуются фразеологические глаголы. в этих случаях переводить НЕОБХОДИМО ВСЮ СВЯЗКУ verb + for иначе получится чушь неимоверная.

Почему мне, "среднеклассовой" русской женщине, не хочется жить в этой благоустроенной, цивилизованной, интересной стране? Получив массу нареканий от русских американцев за свои субъективные заметки, попробовала сформулировать основные, неприемлемые для меня, патриота своей России, американские сущности. Может, что-то покажется нелогичным, что-то спорным, но это те ощущения, которые определяют качество эмоциональной жизни и заменить их нечем.

Доллар главный американский фетиш, цель жизни, мерило отношений. Все имеет свою цену, в том числе и семья и дружба. Заработать можно и в кругу семьи, прибрав в доме у сестры, понянчив внучку, связав носочки зятю... То, что у нас делается по доброте душевной, там реально оценивается. Кто сказал, что это плохо? Разве наши бабушки, нянча внука на свою жалкую пенсию, пока дети учатся или делают карьеру, отказались бы от оплаты своей хоть и родной, но нелегкой ноши? А им никто и не предлагает! Это взаимовыручка называется, правда "взаимо", относительно наших стариков, получается не всегда, к сожалению. Наше поколение не научили знать себе цену, мы все "стоили" 120 рублей инженерской зарплаты. Хорошо, что наши дети уже могут говорить работодателю "я стОю столько...". Но, устраивая шашлычок в саду у друга, для поднятия аппетита можно сначала и грядки вскопать, и баньку всем миром построить, и забор поправить, и картошку выкопать. Не за деньги, за компанию. И с удовольствием!

Лицемерие во всем. Американские улыбки, несущие только информацию о собственном благополучии "у меня все О key!" и предупреждение, чтоб не вздумал лезть в душу. Не хватает искренности эмоций толкнули, обругали тебя в общественном транспорте ты знаешь, что это искренне, что не комфортно человеку, когда ты стоишь на его ноге и тычешь зонтиком ему в лицо. Улыбнулся извиняющейся улыбкой и он уже тебя пожалел! Сделали на улице комплимент, даже взглядом и у тебя крылышки начинают пробиваться в области лопаток, и улыбка появляется сама собой! Сколько вариаций улыбок вы знаете? Безмятежная, игривая, кокетливая, усталая, извиняющаяся, томная, кривая, скептическая, светящаяся и т. п. Меньше всего к понятию "улыбка" подходит определение "равнодушная". Приветствие "how are you?", категорически не предполагающее услышать в ответ правду о состоянии дел. Пресловутое "privacy", не позволяющее открыться друзьям за "рюмкой чая", но исчезающее в кабинете психоаналитика или терапевта. Воспитание в детях уверенности "ты лучший, ты сможешь!" без вариаций, вкладывая этим первый камень в развитие комплекса неполноценности. И т. д.

Законопослушание. Клише "самая свободная страна" с тотальным отслеживанием всей твоей жизнедеятельности всевозможными фискальными органами. Без social security number, идентификационного номера тебя вроде как нет вообще, ты человек невидимка, с такими же невидимыми правами. Это упорядочивает и облегчает жизнь государству, но напрочь лишает желания и умения находить выход из нестандартной ситуации самостоятельно. Лидером там быть сложно. У нас в любом дворе есть свой лидер, который поведет за собой хоть на штурм ЖЭКа, хоть на субботник, хоть на конкурс песен под баян, и всегда найдет поддержку. Там основной массе соответствует определение "инертная".

Наивность американцев. То, что наш юморист называет более категорично. Не принято шевелить мозгами, искать свои пути решения проблем. Ведь кто-то до тебя это уже думал, и тебе написал инструкцию действия в подобных ситуациях. А все остальное экстрим, и это не является национальной чертой характера американцев.

Дефицит общения. Никто никому не нужен. Для интроверта это может быть и не существенно. Но экстраверту, нуждающемуся в душевном общении, через недолгое время благополучная жизнь превращается в одиночное заключение. Нет понятия "сходить к соседу за солью". Нет понятия "одноклассники", "одногруппники". Не принято спрашивать совета у коллег показываешь слабость. Мои наивные надежды расширить и углубить языковые навыки путем общения с носителями языка на бытовом уровне не оправдались по причине отсутствия этих самых носителей в моём круге общения. Как бы ни старалась я его создать. Все общение ограничивалось парой фраз с извинениями, произнесенными сквозь непременную улыбку.

Специфическое чувство юмора, чаще всего основанное на комедии положений торт в лицо, дегазация организма в неурочное время в неположенном месте, спущенные штаны... То, что у нас вызывает чувство неловкости, там вызывает искренний безудержный смех.

Не так и много оказалось несовместимых с моим русским менталитетом американских понятий, но ради чего можно смириться с ними, потеряв себя? Я увидела другую страну, где люди тоже живут счастливо, просто у нас с ними в понятие "счастье" вкладывается разное содержание.

Заканчиваю свои путевые заметки русской провинциалки. Пыталась найти ответ на вопрос: "ПОЧЕМУ американцы так хорошо живут?" И не нашла. Может, Вам повезет? Удачи!

скоро и у нас в садиках будут детишек этому учить.....

i hope such lessons will be in Russia too. Возможно это сократит число абортов, беспризорников и детдомовцев, а так же маньяков из неблагополучных семей (они ж как правило оттуда и берутся, потому что в таких семьях они никому не нужны + издевательства, ущемления и прочее и прочее). Немалый процент составляют браки по залету, в результате неполные семьи.. как следствие не всегда адекватное воспитание (т. к. нехватка того или иного родителя) но все это ИМХО. поэтому, да хоть с пяти лет.. главное чтобы в голове у них что-то оставалось после этих уроков. У меня ребенку 4 года - с уверенностью могу сказать что в 5 лет! у него в голове тока машинку будут и канфеты, и никакого осознанного подхода и серьезности отношения к подобным урокам не будет. Хотя с другой стороны - у них умы еще не озабоченные, в отличие от подростков (меряние сиськами-письками простите)

Haxey Hood - 6 January (Шляпокатание или Хексийсская шляпа)

The Haxey Hood is a annual event held in the village of Haxey, North Lincolnshire. It is most easily described as a kind of rugby game with unlimited participants and few rules, where a leather tube is slowly walked by a large unorganised rugby scrum to 1 of 4 pubs. Here it it remains until the following year's game.
Why?


The official story is that in the 14th century, Lady de Mowbray, wife of an Isle landowner, John De Mowbray, was out riding towards Westwoodside on the hill that separates it from Haxey. As she went over the hill her silk riding hood was blown away by the wind. Thirteen farm workers in the field rushed to help and chased the hood all over the field. It was finally caught by one of the farm workers, but being too shy to hand it back to the lady, gave it to one of the others to hand back to her. She thanked the farm worker who had returned the hood and said that he had acted like a Lord. Whereas the worker who had actually caught the hood was a Fool. So amused was she by this act of chivalry and the resulting chase, that she donated 13 acres of land on condition that the chase for the hood would be re-enacted each year. This re-enactment over the centuries has become known as "The Haxey Hood"

At 2 p. m. the church bells are rung and down the street in procession comes the "Lord" and his eleven "Boggins" together with the "Fool". The "Lord" wears a red coat and top hat covered with flowers and he carries a stick made from thirteen willow wands and bound thirteen times. At the church gate the "Fool", standing on an old mounting block, makes his traditional speech of welcome to the waiting crowd.

The "Lord" then leads his officials and the people to the highest ground in the parish where the "Boggins" form a large circle. He then calls on a distinguished visitor to throw the first "hood" in the air.

За гонками наблюдает судья это лорд Шляпы, а помогают ему Ускользающие, их можно распознать по красным жилетам и (на мой взгляд) совершенно глупым шляпам с разноцветными цветочками.

Шляпокатание напоминает детский футбол, когда правило только одно: "Не покалечь себя и ближнего своего", а в остальном - это такая же веселая чехарда, в которой смешались руки, ноги, головы, дорожная пыль и где-то там, в середине куча-малы - шляпа, о которой мало уже кто под конец праздника вспоминает, ведь когда еще придется так подурачиться и повеселиться...

Many people assume they aren't rich because they don't earn enough money. If I only earned a little more, I could save and invest better, they say.

these two items can be hard for me from time to time. Diversified investment portfolio needs lots of special knowledge, and I take bankcredits from time to time too!

The first time was crushing for our team. After Pogrebnyak failed to miss the goal our team had no one real moments. German footballers were much more faster and worked hard in every episode of game. And two goals was the correct result of the first part of game.

Я живу в городе Волжский, это спутник Волгограда. Я изменила запись, потому как надоело всем объяснять где это.
Если еще точнее, Волгоград на одной стороне Волги, мы на другой. В городе 400 тыс населения, в Волгограде почти миллион. Для тех, кто совсем не в курсе, это там где Родина Мать стоит и это около 1000 км от Москвы. 18 часов на автобусе, чуть больше на поезде, на самолете 1, 5 часа.
кое-что о моем городе:
30 августа 2007 года были оглашены результаты конкурса на самый благоустроенный город России. Второе место в категории "Города с населением от 100 тыс. человек и более" Волжский разделил с Новороссийском. Стоить напомнить, что последние несколько лет Волжский постоянно занимает призовые места в этом престижном конкурсе, а по итогам 2004 года город был признан самым благоустроенным в своей категории.

У меня в Москве очень много друзей, бывших одноклассников и однокурсников. Лучшая подруга там уже три года. Даже родственники по маминой линии где-то есть, правда последний раз я их видела 20 лет назад. Я планирую навестить Москву на пару дней, но скорее всего через месяц, не раньше, так как у меня некоторые сложности на данный момент по медицинской части. Пока не закончу никуда не дернусь.

способов научиться выражать свою мысль на английском.
Конечно, в качестве практики может это не самое лучшее средство и упражнение. Но все-таки...
Ведь создавая тему, вы продумываете свою мысль на английском, ищите подходящие слова и выражения, создаете такой некий черновичок у себя в голове, который всплывет приобщении с иностранцем.
Нас на первом курсе много заставляли писать и сочинять тем. И давали еще список слов, который нужно было связать в отдельную историю.
Мы бесились конечно! выполнять упражнения легче, чем выдумывать. Но это даже было более эффективно.

Вот вопрос...
Почему людей, которые хотят знать язык много, а тех, кто пыхтит, чтобы написать тему - мало...?
Ведь по сути мы даже не обязаны здесь делать тему популярной и супер интересной... главная задача для всех все-таки учебная

ну с одной стороны - задания достаточно популярны, потому что в каждом из заданий - по многу постов, а вот с другой - одними же заданиями "болтать" не научишься, если не будешь непосредственно болтать :) Причём умеющие это понимают, а вот тем, кто "учится" это, видимо, оч. сложно понять... Ну что ж, будем ждать, когда произойдёт "чудо", и все разом на английском защебечут аки птицы :):):)

Конечно просто наблюдать со стороны и "есть попкорн" гораздо лучше, чем чего-то думать, а тем более - разговаривать :) Так что даже если тут начать танцевать эротическую джигу - врядли чего изменится :):):)
